Experienced Trial and Appellate Lawyer

 Mary Pat Benz is an Illinois lawyer with more than 40 years of  experience in federal and state trial and appellate courts. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 1978. Mary Pat has been selected as a Super Lawyer in Business Litigation from 2005 through the present. She has been in solo practice in Chicago since 2010, concentrating in arbitration, mediation, professional responsibility matters (including ARDC defense), and appellate work.

Prior to opening her own practice, she was a Litigation Partner at Winston & Strawn LLP in Chicago from 1999 until 2010, a Partner at Quinlan & Crisham, Ltd. from 1996 to 1999 and a Partner/Associate at Phelan, Pope, and John Ltd. (and its successor firms) from 1978 through 1996.

In litigation practice, Mary Pat represented clients in many types of cases, including personal injury, insurance coverage, ERISA claims, and commercial cases. She taught trial advocacy over a 20-year period at Northwestern University School of Law, in various National Institute for Trial Advocacy programs, and at Loyola University (Chicago) School of Law.

Mary Pat has handled complex disputes involving fraud, breach of contract, breach of warranty, breach of fiduciary duty, attorneys’ fees, legal malpractice defense, products liability, business torts, privacy and publicity rights, consequential and punitive damages, partnership and trust disputes, and class actions. She has represented plaintiffs and defendants in many appeals.
